Man attacked near Lawrence Park, police said

LAWRENCE (KSNT) – Lawrence Police are investigating an overnight shooting call that led to the arrest of a man.

The Lawrence Police Department (LPD) posted on social media on Tuesday, July 23, about an incident that occurred the night before. Police said officers were called to the 200 block of Indiana Street near Burcham Park around 11 p.m. on July 22 because gunshots were heard in the area.

Police investigating the area initially questioned three people but found they could not provide any information. Other officers combing the area eventually found a man “covered in blood” who claimed to have been attacked. He had open wounds to his head and back that were not caused by a firearm.

LPD collected evidence and arrested one of the people they previously questioned. Officers are still looking for another possible suspect in connection with this incident. The victim of the alleged assault was taken to a hospital for treatment.
