Federal manhunt ends after police arrest suspect in Melvindale police officer murder

MELVINDALE, Mich. – Officials say they have arrested Michael Lopez, the man who shot and killed Melvindale police Officer Mohamed Said.

Melvindale Mayor Nicole Shkira said the man was arrested on Monday (July 22) in the area between Livernois Avenue and Otis Street.

Said was shot dead while on duty at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

ATF Detroit released information about Lopez on social media, saying he was armed and dangerous. Lopez, 44, was described as 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 250 pounds.
