Both Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri have repeatedly declared war on Verstappen, with Piastri being a controversial first victory last time in Hungary.

The 23-year-old came close once before when he finished second at the Austrian Grand Prix after an accident between his teammate Norris and Verstappen.

Can Oscar Piastri fight for more victories?

Piastri was very unlucky when a lap time was cancelled in Austria and now, even after his first F1 victory, he is faced with the question of whether he can achieve the feat without Team commands.

In Hungary, McLaren created an awkward situation for themselves by first sending Norris to the pits for tactical reasons and then later instructing him to give the place back to Piastri.

Although both McLarens had already disappeared into the distance from Verstappen’s point of view, Norris lost important points to the Red Bull star in the battle for the championship.

When this rivalry reached its peak in Austria with a collision between the two, the Briton had to retire and the Dutchman had to pit, so every point counts.

George Russell quickly took the lead and Piastri, in second place, at least scored some points for McLaren.

In an interview with Sky Deutschland, McLaren boss Andrea Stella examined the circumstances that cost Piastri the win in Austria and assessed his performance so far this season.

“Oscar has improved a lot in this respect. It is more difficult for young drivers to maintain this racing consistency,” said Stella.

Andrea Stella knows that Oscar Piastri can fight for victory

“In terms of speed, Oscar was already very strong last season. What we notice now is that he learns something new at every race.

“It’s the same with us as a team. I’m very happy with how quickly Oscar is learning.

“It is his second season and he is already at the top and fighting for victories.

“If his lap in Austria had not been cancelled after the crash between Max and Lando, he might have won.

“He could have achieved more by now. He’s doing very well.”

With the next round in Spa Piastri already has the chance to prove once again that he can prevail under all circumstances not only against his teammate, but also against the rest of the starting field.
