Alex Shelley issues spoiler alert at indie show amid WWE rumors

Former TNA World Champion Alex Shelley commented on rumors that he and his longtime Motor City Machine Guns tag team partner Chris Sabin are moving to WWE.

After working and losing to Alpha Zo at a West Coast Pro Wrestling/Deadlock Pro/Prestige combo event in San Francisco, California on Saturday, Shelley took the microphone to offer a brief thought about the future.

“Spoiler alert: I may not come back here. And if I don’t, I know the future of pro wrestling is safe and secure in a West Coast pro ring. I’ve talked too long and the last thing I want to say is thank you for the last two and a half years,” he said.

Shelley and Sabin became free agents after their contracts with TNA expired in April and their next destination would likely be WWE or AEW.

In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, our own Dave Meltzer reported that the veteran duo are likely heading to WWE, and mentioned on the subsequent Wrestling Observer Radio that he expects them to move to NXT. Sabin has never appeared in WWE, while Shelley lost a squash match in 2005 and returned for three NXT bouts alongside KUSHIDA in January 2020.

Shelley and Sabin have agreed on another indie date on August 18th.
