Elyria man arrested and charged with possession of cocaine and fentanyl

ELYRIA, Ohio (WOIO) – Elyria police executed two residential search warrants Friday, resulting in the arrest of a man and the seizure of fentanyl, crack cocaine and a firearm.

According to a news release from Elyria Police, Lorain Police and the FBI searched the Midview Crossing Apartments in the 1800 block of Middle Avenue and a home in the 200 block of 16th Street.

Police seized over 15 grams of fentanyl, 8.9 grams of crack cocaine, as well as a firearm and US currency.

During these searches, 35-year-old Johnny Jackson III of Elyria was arrested, the press release states.

Jackson was charged with three counts of drug trafficking, two counts of drug possession, one count of possession of a weapon while under disability and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Elyria police said Jackson is a known violent offender with a long criminal history.

According to the press release, Jackson was arrested in 2010 and convicted of aggravated robbery with a firearm, aggravated burglary and kidnapping.

Jackson was sentenced to 14 years in prison but was released on parole earlier this year, the press release said.

The police said these searches were part of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation. Their goal was to “investigate and prosecute violent criminals and people involved in drug trafficking.”
