BCI: Perpetrator dead after shooting at Medina Sheriff’s Office

MEDINA, Ohio – Authorities say a suspect is dead after being shot outside the Medina County Sheriff’s Department headquarters Wednesday night.

Officials with the sheriff’s office and Medina police say the incident began shortly after 6 p.m. when a concerned citizen spoke on the sheriff’s outside intercom and reported seeing an armed woman in the parking lot acting “unruly.” Officers then rushed to the entryway and discovered the suspect armed with a handgun and a knife. When they ordered her to drop the weapons, one of the officers fired his weapon at her.

The woman’s death was confirmed at the scene. None of the police officers were injured.

According to Medina Police Chief Edward R. Kinney, both his department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will lead the investigation into the shooting.
