Jason Washington found dead after disappearance in 2022 | Mid-Missouri News

Police have confirmed that a Columbia man who went missing in October 2022 has been found dead.

Jason Washington’s body was found on June 7, according to his wife, Tamitra Williams, who made the announcement on the Bring Jason Washington Home Facebook page, which she set up to collect tips on how to find him.

She said that when she heard he had been found, she was initially overjoyed and did not immediately understand that he had not been found alive.

“He was having seizures – that’s why I thought he might be in the hospital because his memory might be lost,” Williams said. “So I assumed he might be in the hospital under John Doe, just waiting to be found.”

Police confirmed Wednesday that Washington’s body had been found after a medical examiner identified his remains.

Williams said that after she was notified of the discovery of Washington’s body, she was able to identify her husband. He was still wearing the clothes he was wearing when he disappeared. She said he still had her keys on him when he was found.

“He’s the only one who has the keys to my truck, and I love cartoons, so I have a cartoon character on my keychain,” she said. “But you have to confirm that, because maybe he dropped it, but that wasn’t the case. It was actually him.”

Williams said the search for Washington was “one trauma after another, one tragedy after another.”

Washington was seen near West Middle School on Clinkscales Road on October 15, 2022 before he disappeared.

After the search, which lasted more than two years, Williams said she had some advice for people looking for missing loved ones.

“Never stop looking,” she said. “I don’t care how long it takes – never stop looking, never stop caring, never stop loving, never stop looking for them, because they wouldn’t stop looking for you.”

“I know if I had been the one missing, he would never have given up,” Williams said.
