Pueblo County District 70 reports a data breach and ransomware incident

PUEBLO, Colorado – Pueblo County School District 70 reports a data theft and ransomware incident.

The breach could put personal information and records of current and former students and employees at risk.

The incident occurred sometime around April 27, but was not discovered until May 17. The incident remains under investigation and is believed to have involved student records dating from 1991 to 2006 and personnel records from an unspecified period to the present.

“We take the privacy and security of our community’s information extremely seriously,” said Ronda Rein, superintendent of Pueblo County School District 70. “We are working extensively with cybersecurity experts to fully understand the scope of this incident and to harden our systems against future threats.”

District 70 encourages all current and former students to take precautions by monitoring credit reports and financial statements, considering a credit freeze or fraud alert, and being alert to suspicious forms of contact.
