Chris Brown officially named Buffalo Bills play-by-play announcer

After more than a season as the interim radio voice of the Buffalo Bills, the team and Audacy’s WGR 550 (WGR-AM) have made it official: Chris Brown will succeed John Murphy in the booth as the Bills’ radio play-by-play announcer.

With Murphy retiring, Brown is set to continue the legacy alongside Eric Wood, who returns as a color analyst for game day broadcasts on WGR 550, which features every Buffalo Bills game, as well as pre- and post-game coverage led by Bills Beat and Sideline reporter Sal Capaccio.

Brown began working for WGR as a Bills reporter in 1997. His experience spans multiple sports, including live commentary for the Arena Football League, Mid-American Conference and National Professional Soccer League through 2018. He also hosts the weekly podcast Bills in figures.

Brown took on the interim role after Murphy suffered a stroke late in the 2022 season. Murphy has been the “Voice of the Bills” for 16 years and has been with the team since 1984.

Tim Wenger, Senior Vice President and Market Director at Audacy Buffalo, praised Brown’s extensive experience with the Bills, saying, “Chris is uniquely positioned to continue the Bills’ long tradition of providing informative, passionate and entertaining game-day commentary. His decades of knowledge of the organization will be invaluable when he steps up to the mic.”

Buffalo Bills COO Pete Guelli commented, “Chris has done this job at an extremely high level for parts of the last two seasons with Eric Wood and Sal Capaccio. He has a strong institutional knowledge of our team while understanding the pulse of our fan base. We look forward to Chris carrying the torch for the legends this job has produced in Van Miller and John Murphy.”

Brown added: “I have been fortunate to know, work with and learn from Van Miller and John Murphy. I am grateful to be entrusted with this responsibility in the future.”
