Taylor Swift breaks Whitney Houston’s all-time record

As time goes by, Taylor Swift continues to break records and deliver exceptional performances for some of the most famous musicians of all time. Every year, she surpasses legends and achieves feats that no one before her has accomplished. This week, the singer-songwriter earns another place in the history books by surpassing one of the greatest singers of all time.

Swift The Department of Tortured Poets topped the Billboard 200 again this week. The title has now topped the major albums chart in the United States for 12 years.

With a dozen weeks spent at number one since its debut at number one, The Department of Tortured Poets now holds the record for the longest tenure on the Billboard 200 chart since its inception, among all-female projects. Prior to that, no album by a female musician had ever reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and remained there 12 times.

Swift thus breaks her recently established tie with Whitney Houston, who previously held the record alone. The legendary singer’s eponymous title track Whitney The song debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in 1987, and went on to dominate the top spot on the chart for 11 consecutive years. This was the highest-ever number one achievement for a woman in decades, until now.

The Department of Tortured Poets The track sold an additional 163,000 equivalent units in its twelfth week on the market. That’s a huge amount, the kind of amount that would normally be enough to push a track to number one, and it’s the kind of number most musicians aim for. The fact that Swift managed to sell so many of them a dozen weeks into this campaign is astounding.

This sum of $163,000 actually represents a considerable increase compared to last week. Billboard reports that The Department of Tortured Poets Total consumption of the series increased by 43% frame-over-frame. This increase is largely due to sales, as Swift recently released slightly edited versions of the project, prompting many die-hard fans to purchase it, probably not for the first time.

Only two other albums in U.S. history have debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and remained there for at least 12 weeks. Morgan Wallen One thing at a time and Stevie Wonders Songs in the key of life Both achieved the feat, the latter having retained the lead for 13 lucky stints, begging with his launch.

The Department of Tortured Poets The band may still be in charge, but it looks like they’ll finally be forced to step down in a matter of days. Eminem’s new album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) is off to a fantastic start and has a great chance of bringing it back to the top of the Billboard 200 – and replacing Swift, after many have tried.
