Wiz Khalifa arrested for illegal drug possession in Romania

American rapper Wiz Khalifa was arrested for drug use while performing in Romania. He was in town to perform at the Beach Please! Festival, where he was seen smoking marijuana on stage on Saturday. Footage of Khalifa’s performance at the festival shared on social media shows him casually smoking on stage and features a clip of the Black and Yellow host being arrested by police. Police later released a press release about the incident and Khalifa responded with an apology.

Following the arrest of the 36-year-old rapper, the Romanian Organized Crime Prosecutor’s Office (DIICOT) issued a press release confirming the events of the night. The press release states: “During a concert as part of a music festival in the resort of Costinești, Constanța County, (Khalifa) possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (on stage) another quantity of cannabis in the form of a homemade cigarette.”

It goes on to say: “We make clear that the persons under investigation are entitled to the procedural rights and guarantees of the Code of Criminal Procedure and the presumption of innocence throughout the criminal proceedings,” the Hollywood Reporter reported.

Recreational use of marijuana is illegal in Romania. A video has surfaced online showing the rapper being arrested and taken out of the venue, but he was later released from custody.

Wiz Khalif apologizes after arrest

The See You Again rapper posted a public apology on microblogging site X following his arrest in Romania. In his apology post, he wrote: “The show last night was amazing. I didn’t mean to show any disrespect to Romania by lighting a cigarette on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I’ll be back soon. But next time without a big ass.”

Interestingly, the Beach Please! site was also the site of an anti-drug campaign led by YouTuber and co-founder of the festival, Andrei Selaru, in collaboration with the Romanian Interior Ministry, The Telegraph reported.
