Law enforcement on alert after discovery of blue fentanyl in Chillicothe incident

Chillicothe, OH – On July 12, 2024, the Sheriff’s Office Deputy Spokesman responded to a disturbing report in the department lobby regarding a suspicious package that may have contained drugs.

When the deputy arrived at the scene, he encountered a citizen from Da who reported that he had discovered a pack of cigarettes on the sidewalk of his property. He stated that upon examining the pack, he noticed plastic sticking out of it. Upon further inspection, he discovered a blue powder inside, so he secured the contents in a zip lock bag and took it to the sheriff’s office for disposal.

The man suspected that the package might have been dropped by workmen who had recently completed roofing work on his property. The officer accepted the package and assured that the incident would be documented and the contents properly treated as evidence.

Upon closer inspection of the powder, the deputy noticed its purple color and fine texture, which raised concerns due to its unusual appearance. Seeking guidance, the deputy contacted Chillicothe PD detectives, who confirmed that the substance resembled a newly labeled variant of pure fentanyl that was reportedly circulating among local dealers.

In response to this alarming discovery, the lieutenant was immediately instructed to take precautionary measures within the sheriff’s office. The deputy photographed the package and officially logged it as evidence for further analysis and processing.
