Police investigate shooting in Dothan neighborhood, neighbors respond | WDHN

DOTHAN, Alabama (WDHN) — Police and paramedics rushed to the scene on Price Street last night after a shooting with injuries was reported. Now neighbors are responding.

An elderly woman was shot in her doorway near the intersection of Price and Lake Streets just before 11 p.m. last night.

“I really thought it was fireworks. And then I sat there and thought the bangs were too fast to be fireworks,” says Kevin Blair.

Blair and his wife Jackie were watching movies with a friend when, they say, gunfire erupted.

“I ducked. I mean, I literally ducked when I heard it,” Jackie says.

She said she ran to the door and tried to lock it. She didn’t know where the shots were coming from.

“I think they were afraid I would be shot,” says Jackie.

Kevin adds: “It sounded very close. It sounded like it was right in our front yard.”

Police and paramedics lined the block and were immediately at the scene of the accident.

Bullet holes engraved in the door mark the scene of the shooting.

According to police, the woman in the doorway was shot in the leg. She was not the target.

She was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

“Get well soon. I’ll be thinking of her and praying for her too,” says Jackie. “And I’ll be praying for the family too.”

Police are continuing to investigate this case.
