8-year-old girl raped and killed in AP; 3 minors arrested | News from India

An eight-year-old girl was raped and murdered by three schoolmates, all minors, in Nandyal district of Andhra on July 7. The rape and murder case came to light on Wednesday after police arrested the accused trio, who had thrown the body into a canal to cover up the crime. Police have not recovered the body yet.

Police said the girl’s father filed a report on Sunday that his daughter had disappeared while playing in a park. Clues provided by the sniffer dog helped police locate the three boys. The dog not only led police to the crime scene, but also stopped at the accused’s homes. After an initial round of investigation, the suspects were taken into custody.

During questioning, the accused minors told police officers that they had seen the girl playing and persuaded her to play with them. The trio then took her to a remote place near the Muchumarri Irrigation Project, gagged her and raped her one by one. Fearing arrest, they killed the child, threw her body into the canal and fled.
