Creek County armed robbery suspect arrested after Tulsa standoff

A man is in custody after an hour-long standoff with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol in Tulsa.

Officers said they stopped a man because he and another man, Stephen Pool, were not wearing seat belts. Pool ran into the driver’s house and refused to get out.

According to police, Pool is wanted for an armed robbery in Creek County, which Rick Wadley said he was unaware of when he hired Pool as a housekeeper.

Wadley says Pool helped him clean up around his Tulsa home this summer.

Wadley says the two were on their way to pump up their tire when they were stopped by the OHP.

“I guess there was a cop sitting down there, and I guess he recognized Stephen through the window, so he shined the light on me, and I pulled up in front of the Waffle House,” Wadley said.

But the Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Wadley was stopped because neither he nor Pool were wearing seat belts.

Wadley says the officer asked him to get out of the car after he stopped.

“He tried to pass on my information, Stephen opened the door of the pickup truck and ran, and the officer chased him on foot,” Wadley said.

Wadley said as he stood next to the patrol car, he heard something over the scanner about where Pool was going.

“I said, man, come back to my house,” Pool said.

According to police, Pool went in and refused to come out for about an hour.

Witnesses said they saw Pool point a water hose at a police officer.

“The officer said you shouldn’t do that, and then there was a standoff with a water hose and a gun, and the guy with the water hose obviously had the upper hand,” Wadley said.

Pool was later arrested.

According to Trooper Preston Cox, it’s a rewarding experience when a traffic stop results in someone being arrested on a warrant, even if it’s not easy.

“He will appear in court and if there are victims, perhaps there will be some closure,” said Preston Cox, OHP spokesman.

Cox says Pool was taken to a hospital to make sure he was not injured.

When News On 6 asked Wadley if the whole situation upset him, he said, “It happens.”
