Pittsburgh police are investigating a shooting incident involving a 5-year-old girl in Mt. Washington

A 5-year-old girl was unharmed late Wednesday night when the car she was sitting in the back seat of was hit by bullets in a shooting in Mount Washington, Pittsburgh police said.

The driver was taken to a hospital in stable condition for treatment of a gunshot wound to the back.

Police said they were called to Estella Avenue around 10:30 p.m. because of a ShotSpotter alert reporting 11 shots fired in the area. The injured man drove himself to a Pittsburgh EMS station with the girl in the car.

A dark-colored Dodge Durango was seen leaving the scene, police said. It had Pennsylvania license plate MBR-9566. Anyone with information is asked to call police headquarters at 412-323-7800.

The child was returned to her family. The vehicle she was in and others in the area were damaged by gunfire, police said.

No arrests were announced.
