Complex response team appointed for the Shelly fire | News

KLAMATH NATIONAL FOREST – The Klamath National Forest announced that it has requested a complex crisis management team for the Shelly Fire.

Firefighters respond to a 224-acre wildfire near Shelly Lake and the Pacific Crest Trail in the Marble Mountains.

“The fire department anticipates the Shelly Fire to be a long-term fire,” said Chris Christofferson, deputy forest ranger. “And we have requested a complex crisis management team due to the location of the fire and the terrain in which it is raging.”

The Klamath National Forest said smoke was visible from Eta and the Fort Jones area. The Forest Service is taking initial firefighting measures.

Air assault teams have joined the firefighting planes, helicopters and the command aircraft that were dispatched to the scene on orders. Parachutists are also on site.

According to the National Forest, a closure order is being prepared for the section of the Pacific Crest Trail between Etna Summit and the Shackleford Trail.
