Man arrested after chase to Rock Co.

WALWORTH COUNTY, Wisconsin (WMTV) – The Walworth County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday that a man was arrested after he sped away from officers during a traffic stop.

On Sunday, two officers stopped a driver because he had illegally tinted side windows and no license plate on the front.

During the traffic stop, officers smelled marijuana and ordered the man to get out of the car. Instead, the man allegedly sped away, hitting one of the officers in the arm.

Both officers returned to their vehicle and pursued the man south on I-43 into Rock County. A Wisconsin State Patrol officer attempted to stop the man’s vehicle using spike barriers.

The man swerved his car to avoid the spike strip, causing him to lose control and crash through the center line. Police said the man was traveling at about 177 km/h at the time of the accident.

Clinton Fire and EMS responded to the accident.

Officers said they found about half a pound of marijuana for resale, 20 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, and other THC-containing products in separate packages.

The man received 16 traffic violations and faces charges of fleeing a traffic officer, driving under the influence, assault on public officials, first-degree reckless endangerment of safety, resisting or obstructing an officer, possession of cocaine with intent to traffic and possession of THC with intent to traffic, authorities said.
