2 people injured in truck accident on US 81 in Montague County

According to authorities, a 19-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman were traveling north in a Hyundai Elantra on US 81 north of the Pump Station Road intersection when the accident occurred.

There were reports of rainy and wet weather and road conditions with standing water in the area at the time. According to reports, an 18-wheeler traveling southbound on the highway entered the water, lost control, turned left, crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane. This resulted in a collision between the 18-wheeler and the Elantra. The impact sent the Elantra off the right side of the road, where it came to rest in the ditch facing east.

The 19-year-old man in the Elantra suffered serious injuries, while the woman suffered minor injuries. Both people were immediately taken to local medical facilities by emergency services to receive necessary treatment. No other injuries were reported and the accident remains under investigation.
