Two people arrested in robbery at storage shed in Rome

ROME, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Two people were arrested after they were caught breaking into storage units, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

Oneida County Sheriffs conducted a check on the premises of the Colonial Self Storage facility on Tannery Road in the city of Rome at approximately 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 30. Upon entering the facility, officers noticed an occupied vehicle near an open storage unit. Upon checking the vehicle, a woman – later identified as 30-year-old Lyndsey Orlowske of Rome – was discovered with two children who were reportedly sleeping inside.


A subsequent search of the storage unit found a man – identified as 33-year-old James Collazo of Rome – allegedly hiding in the unit. Further investigation revealed that the storage unit did not belong to Collazo or Orlovske. Both suspects were subsequently arrested.

Both suspects were transported to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office in Oriskany, where they were subsequently processed and held for arraignment.

Both Collazo and Orlowske are charged with:

  • Third degree burglary, a class D felony,
  • two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a Class A misdemeanor,
  • Possession of burglary tools, a Class A misdemeanor, and
  • Criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
