Domestic violence shooting leaves two dead in Shelby County

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office said a woman was found dead at the scene and a man was taken to the hospital where he later died.

SHELBY COUNTY, Tennessee – A shooting in a southeast Shelby County neighborhood has left two people dead, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the scene after several witnesses told ABC24 the shooting was a domestic violence incident.

SCSO said they arrived at the scene of the accident in the 7600 block of Newfound Gap Road around 5:15 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they found a woman dead from gunshot wounds and a man suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene. They took the man to the hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced dead.

Several witnesses at the scene told ABC24 that the shooting was a domestic violence incident. One witness said he heard screaming before the shots were fired.

The sheriff’s office said the crime scene is still under investigation.
