WWE expects federal investigation to uncover incriminating material about Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis

According to Sean Ross Sapp in a Fightful Q&A, WWE expects that “things will be found out about Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis” during the federal investigation into sexual misconduct and sex trafficking allegations against McMahon. People inside WWE are less concerned about what the federal investigation might bring to light about the company.

“People at WWE aren’t nearly as concerned about the company personally. They expect things to be found out about Vince McMahon and John Laurinaitis. That’s the bottom line. At least as far as talent goes, everyone feels liberated from those two guys. There was a false sense of security a few years ago, but now it’s been reaffirmed that there’s no longer any connection internally.” Said Sean Ross Sapp.

A federal investigation into Vince McMahon has been ongoing since the summer of 2022, and Janel Grant was ordered by the U.S. Department of Justice in June to stay her lawsuit against McMahon, WWE and John Laurinaitis as attorneys in the Southern District of New York investigate allegations of sex trafficking and sexual misconduct against McMahon dating back to 1986. The lawsuit was stayed until December 11, 2024.

In the lawsuit, Janel Grant accused Vince McMahon of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and physical and emotional abuse. WWE was accused of trying to cover up the allegations against McMahon, while John Laurinaitis was accused of sexual assault. Grant also stated in the lawsuit that the non-disclosure agreement she signed with McMahon was unenforceable, citing the Speak Out Act and the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act of 2000.

Vince McMahon resigned from his position as CEO of TKO, days after Janel Grant filed a lawsuit because sponsors had begun withdrawing their support from WWE.
