Gas prices approach July 4

As we head into the holiday week, AAA releases the weekly Western New York Gas Price Report.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As the Fourth of July holiday approaches in Western New York, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline increased 4 cents from last Monday, to $3.49. One year ago today, the national price was $3.54.

In New York, the average price is $3.59, up one cent from last Monday, June 24. A year ago, the price in New York was $3.69.

AAA Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following averages:

  • Batavia – $3.53 (no change since last Monday)
  • Buffalo – $3.58 (no change since last Monday)
  • Elmira – $3.40 (up 2 cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca – $3.63 (down 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Rochester – $3.61 (no change from last Monday)
  • Rome – $3.62 (up 3 cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse – $3.56 (up 1 cent from last Monday)
  • Watertown – $3.63 (up 1 cent from last Monday)

According to a press release from AAA, they stated that “AAA projects that 70.9 million travelers will travel 50 miles or more from home during the Independence Day travel period, which extends over a full week this year The majority of travelers will take road trips – AAA Projects. a record 60.6 million people will travel by car during Independence Day week, an increase of 2.8 million travelers compared to last year. This year’s number also exceeds that of 2019, when 55.3 million people traveled by car during the week of July 4.

They go on to mention that “prices at the pump are lower than last year’s Independence Day, although they have increased slightly in some areas due to demand.” Oil prices remain low, between $82 and $86 per barrel, helping to keep pump prices low. Diesel prices are relatively stable. The national average price of diesel is $3.81, up two cents from last Monday. The New York average is $4.25, unchanged from last Monday. »
