One person arrested after shooting at Mead’s Quarry in Knoxville, Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – No injuries were reported and one person was arrested after Knoxville Police officers responded to reports of shots fired outside a popular swimming spot on Sunday.

Police responded to reports of gunshots in the Mead’s Quarry parking lot around 5:30 p.m.


Upon arrival, officers spotted a man armed with a handgun. A police spokesperson said the suspect ran from the parking lot and discarded the weapon. He was immediately arrested and the weapon was recovered by police officers.

Two people told investigators that the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Joseph Wools, shot at them after an argument. No one was struck by gunfire and no injuries were reported.

Wools is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a weapon while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, public intoxication and evading arrest.
