June 30, 2024 (Poway) – Travis Bradley Miller, 34, is in custody after a six-hour SWAT standoff at his home in the 13000 block of York Avenue in Poway

His roommate called 9-1-1 around 1:30 p.m. yesterday and reported that Miller had attacked him with a box cutter. The roommate suffered abrasions during the altercation with the suspect.

Officers from the Poway Police Department arrived at the scene and made contact with the suspect to de-escalate the situation. They continued to talk and attempted to convince him to leave the house and surrender peacefully, but he refused.

The Sheriff’s ASTREA helicopter monitored the situation from above as additional forces from the Sheriff’s Crisis Negotiation Team, Special Enforcement Detail (SED/SWAT), and deputy canine handlers arrived on scene. An alert was sent out asking residents to avoid the area, and a portion of York Avenue was closed during the standoff.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the suspect was arrested without incident. He is being held at the San Diego Central Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and probation violation, according to Lieutenant Gavin Lanning.
