MIAMI BEACH, FL. (WSVN) – New bodycam footage shows the moments after two men got out of their luxury car and chased police on foot in Miami Beach.

Footage obtained exclusively by 7News shows the chaos that followed the rescue of the Mercedes Maybach after police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on February 13.

“Hands up,” an officer shouts.

“Hey, watch out, watch out,” another officer said.

According to Miami Beach police, the traffic stop occurred because the Maybach was dark-tinted and had no taillights.

But as the car slowly came to a stop, the passenger and driver abandoned the luxury car in the area of Eighth Street and Euclid.

As officers began searching for the suspects, they learned there was a possible firearm involved.

“The subject may be armed,” an officer is heard saying on bodycam video.

Police are seen sprinting to find the two men who escaped the routine traffic stop.

“Vehicle fled. We have a rescue operation,” the official said.

“Someone ran,” another officer said.

During their search, body camera video shows police asking beachgoers if they had seen the suspects.

“Hey, did you see anyone running?” an officer asked.

“He ran west,” an officer said.

The police search took officers through alleys and residential streets in South Beach.

As police conducted the search, surveillance video shows one of the suspects jumping into the bushes of a residence at Ninth Street and Meridian as he fled.

But it didn’t take long until he was found.

“Hands up,” one official said.

“You’re going to get up!” another officer said as he stood over the suspect.

The video shows the suspect being pulled from the bushes in the garden and taken into custody.

The suspect was later identified as 30-year-old Javaughn Carrawell. He is from St. Louis, Missouri.

Shortly after police ordered Carrawell to leave his hiding place with his hands up, they found a gun thrown on the ground.

“It’s not loaded,” an official said.

Officials later explained in detail what the recovered weapon looked like.

The other person, the driver of the Maybach, was never found. He remains at large.

Witnesses on South Beach can be heard on security video describing the chaos they saw.

“The police catch someone. GTA, GTA Vice City,” one person said.

Witnesses linked the ordeal to the popular video game about rampant crime in South Florida.

To the witnesses who watched the scene that night, it was art imitating life.

Carrawell now faces multiple charges for openly carrying a weapon and resisting arrest.
