Investigation into deaths at Voluntown home surprises neighbors – NBC Connecticut

State police are still trying to determine what happened at a Voluntown home where two people were found dead Wednesday.

Neighbors were told to stay home for most of the day.

After finding two people dead in a home in Voluntown on Wednesday, state police searched the crime scene for clues.

The large police presence attracted the attention of the neighbors.

“When you hear a siren, it’s like calling all your neighbors and friends because it’s very quiet and we know each other,” said Shannon Ozkan of Griswold.

According to police, it all started with an emergency call at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

When they arrived, they found a dead man in the driveway and then used a PA system to determine if anyone else was home.

That’s because the emergency call came from a woman in the building who said “excuse me” just before the connection was lost.

Neighbors said they heard everything.

“They just said, ‘Please come to the door. Please answer the phone so we know you’re OK. We just want to hear your side of the story,'” said Anne Venturini of Voluntown.

After receiving no response, state police deployed a drone and found that a woman had died in the stairwell.

Police did not release the names of the man and woman or their relationship.

“When you hear that two people have been found dead, it is very, very devastating,” Ozkan said.

The state police also did not provide any information on how the two people died, but said there was no danger to the public. Neighbors reacted with relief to the news.

“I am glad that the state police were able to get everything under control, clarify the situation to some extent and do what was necessary,” said Ozkan.

State police said the investigation is still active and ongoing.
