Police make arrest after shooting in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — A 20-year-old man is facing charges following a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Pawtucket.

When officers arrived at the corner of Jefferson and West Avenue around 2:45 p.m., they found blood and bullet casings on the ground.

Police said a 19-year-old man was shot multiple times as he left a store. Two people then got into a car and continued shooting as they drove away.

Friends of the victim took him to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in critical but stable condition, according to police.

Police said they received a description of the suspect vehicle and were able to track it using their “Flock” camera system. Providence police then found the car in their city and took three people in for questioning.

Jose Medina Alvarez was subsequently charged with aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, discharging a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, carrying a pistol without a permit, and shooting in a confined space.
