Stolen car suspect found dead after rollover crash in Box Elder County

HOWELL, Box Elder County — A man suspected of stealing a car was found dead after the vehicle overturned in a ditch, police said.

The Utah Highway Patrol reported that dispatchers received a call at 5:44 a.m. Tuesday about a car in a ditch near mile marker 20 on Interstate 84.

According to UHP, when officers arrived, they found a silver Toyota Sequoia with significant damage in the embankment that was not clearly visible from the highway.

Police reported that the 22-year-old driver was thrown out by a heavy load after the rollover accident and was found dead.

According to UHP, the Toyota was reported stolen in Weber County just hours before the crash, and the description of the driver killed matched that of the suspected thief.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident. According to UHP, lanes on I-84 were closed for about three hours.
