Buffalo Field Campaign invites public to gather to honor rare white buffalo calf in Yellowstone | State

WEST YELLOWSTONE, Mont. – A nonprofit group is hosting a gathering to honor the rare white buffalo born in Yellowstone National Park in June.

The Buffalo Field Campaign says the buffalo birth, which took place June 4 in the park’s Lamar Valley, is “held in the highest esteem” by tribes across the country.

The rally will take place at the Buffalo Field Campaign headquarters at 14365 Hebgen Lake Road in West Yellowstone on June 28.

The organization asks participants to bring everything they need for the event themselves, such as food, water and blankets or chairs. There are a limited number of campsites on site for the event which can be reserved by contacting [email protected].

“We’ve been waiting for this day,” said James Holt, executive director of Buffalo Field Campaign. “This is a sign that business as usual at Yellowstone is not enough. Along with Chief Arvol, we call on tribes and all people to help us protect the way of life of wild buffalo herds in the Yellowstone ecosystem,” a statement from the nonprofit organization said.

More information about the event will be available on the Buffalo Field Campaign website. The group said the birth comes at a time when many tribes are celebrating the World Day of Peace and Prayer, and will collaborate with the nonprofit in celebrating the buffalo.
