MARGATE, New Jersey (WPVI) – A New Jersey shore town is enforcing a municipal ordinance that allows police officers to issue tickets to the parents or guardians of unruly youths.

The behavior problems began over Memorial Day weekend, when large crowds caused chaos in several areas.

This happened in both Ocean City and Wildwood.

Officials say Margate City Police are now one step ahead of the problem.

Parents or guardians who knowingly leave their children unattended will receive a ticket.

The city prohibits children under 17 from being in public between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless they are accompanied by an adult.

According to local authorities, fines range from $100 to $1,000.
