Royal Caribbean suspends all cruises to beach destinations for the remainder of May

Royal Caribbean has announced the suspension of all May cruises to the popular destination Labadee in Haiti, citing ongoing unrest as the reason for the decision.

The cruise giant had already suspended trips to its private resort in mid-March and has now decided to extend this suspension until the end of May.

A Royal Caribbean spokesperson said: “We have suspended all visits to Labadee fleet-wide until May 2024 and continue to monitor the situation with our global security and intelligence team.”

The cancellation affects several sailings, including the ships Allure of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, Wonder of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas, which were originally scheduled to dock in Labadee in May.

Passengers affected by the change could be rerouted to another destination, such as Royal Caribbean’s exclusive Perfect Day at CocoCay in the Bahamas, or they could enjoy an additional day at sea, the Express reports.

Although it is a private resort for Royal Caribbean guests, the Haitian government retains sovereignty over Labadee.

The British Foreign Office has strongly advised against travel to Haiti: “There are currently no British consular officials in Haiti and our ability to provide consular assistance is severely limited and cannot be provided in person in Haiti.”

They provided further safety advice, adding: “If you decide to travel to or stay in Haiti against FCDO advice, try to avoid all crowds and public events and take appropriate safety precautions.”
