Rocky’s Sweet Treats owner arrested again for alleged drug trafficking in Broward

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. – A 5-foot-1-inch, 25-year-old woman who enjoys baking looks harmless, but detectives from two Broward County police departments have described her as a drug dealer.

One reported that Miami-born Alexandra Ramroopsingh was armed. Another noted that she drove aggressively. She was driving a black Mercedes-Benz during her three arrests in Broward.

State records show that Ramroopsingh, a business owner, started Rocky’s Sweet Treats at age 22 in her parents’ three-bedroom home on Sunflower Drive, near the Oriole Golf Club in Margate.

Months later, Coconut Creek police reported that Ramroopsingh had entered a residence known to be used for drug sales while carrying a gray backpack and disappeared an hour later.

During a traffic stop nearby, Ramroopsingh allegedly smelled of marijuana and told a Coconut Creek police officer that she was carrying a silver Ruger EC9 9mm for protection.

“A search of the backpack revealed various types of narcotics: white/green Xanax pills, marijuana, THC cartridges, commercially packaged THC edibles, mushrooms, LSD, Adderall, and small empty plastic baggies,” Officer Dorian Pumalo wrote in his arrest report, adding that she confessed to “selling narcotics to people while sometimes making deliveries for her business.”

Broward County District Judge Michael I. Rothschild ordered a 12-month probation, but records show he ended the probation four days later and the case was closed last year. Ramroopsingh was arrested twice more this year and Rothschild was scheduled to preside over both cases.

On January 24, a Margate detective reported he was in an unmarked police vehicle when he saw Ramroopsingh tailing him in a black Mercedes-Benz before she “changed lanes, accelerated and aggressively pulled in front.” He reported conducting a traffic stop on 66th Avenue and smelling marijuana.

“In the back passenger seat, there were two brown paper bags in a white cloth bag. Inside one of the paper bags were several foil-sealed bags of suspected cannabis. Inside the second bag were two bars of mushroom chocolate and a small plastic bag containing four blue diamond-shaped pills with a skull and crossbones printed on them,” Officer Laura Jimenez wrote in her arrest report, according to records.

On January 25, prosecutors charged Ramroopsingh with possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, possession of marijuana, possession of MDMA and reckless driving. She was released on $2,500 bail.

On Thursday, while the January case was still pending, Margate police arrested Ramroopsingh again. On Friday, prosecutors filed their second criminal case against her this year.

Ramroopsingh was in Fort Lauderdale’s main jail on Saturday awaiting a hearing where she would have to prove that her bail money did not come from the proceeds of the crimes she is accused of.

Ramroopsingh faced 18 new charges: trafficking in oxycodone, trafficking in LSD, trafficking in sedatives, sale of MDMA, two counts of sale of marijuana, unauthorized use of a two-way communication device, and 11 cases of possession with intent to sell, manufacture or supply.
