Four were killed instantly, four others suffered serious injuries in an accident

CHITRADURGA: At least four passengers of a speeding car were killed when it crashed into a container truck near Chikkabennur village on National Highway 48 in Chitradurga district on Saturday morning. Three passengers of the car, including a toddler, died on the spot while another succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.

The other four persons sustained serious injuries and their condition is critical. They were rushed to a private hospital in Davanagere. The dead were identified on the spot as Prajval Reddy (30), Harshita (28) and two-year-old Sohan. Vijay Reddy was declared dead at the hospital. The injured Shilpa, Swarna George, Madhumitha and Shichikrishna are in critical condition. The victims are residents of Thanisandra, Bengaluru North.

The incident occurred when the car, which was travelling from Bengaluru to Goa, hit the rear of the truck. After the accident, the car was badly damaged, with the roof being torn off. The truck container hit the side wall of the highway and overturned, but fortunately, the driver and the truck container cleaner sustained only minor injuries in the incident. The occupants of the car belonged to two families and were on their way to Goa to spend the weekend. More details are awaited.

“The car was travelling from Bengaluru towards Goa when it crashed into the rear of the truck on NH-48. Three people died on the spot, one on the way to the hospital. The other four injured were taken to a private hospital in Davanagere by ambulance. Prima facie, it seems that the container suffered a tyre burst which led to its sudden deceleration. The Fortuner car was travelling at a very high speed and could not anticipate the slowing down of the container due to which it failed to control the vehicle and hit the container,” the police suspected.
