ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Cooling centers will be open across metro Atlanta as temperatures soar this weekend.

Selena Butler Park and Recreation Center in Atlanta will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. In DeKalb County, recreation centers and libraries throughout the county will be open for refreshments.

Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-to-high 90s. Officials are reminding people not to leave children or pets in hot cars, drink plenty of water and check vehicle maintenance. their air conditioning system at home.

“It’s just reality. A lot of people’s (air systems) fail in such a short amount of time once you hit the first heat wave,” a Coolray Heating and Air technician told Atlanta News First. “It’s better to stay one step ahead.”

Many families also chose fun options to cool off, including Historic Fourth Ward Park Waterpark, open until 8 p.m.
