FCSO investigates bicycle accident and obstruction of justice incident

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) reported a bicycle accident and subsequent obstruction of justice on June 11.

Deputies and paramedics responded to a car accident involving a 16-year-old bicyclist.

At about 2:30 p.m., the boy and his family were riding together on Silver Hill Road and Silver Court near Summerduck.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident, a 79-year-old woman, stopped immediately and a passerby began to resuscitate the victim.

After examination, medical personnel requested transport by helicopter and the victim was flown to Fairfax Hospital.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, but no charges have yet been filed.

While officers were conducting their initial investigation and closing the intersection, a local man disobeyed an officer’s orders and drove through the investigation site.

Mark Manning of Summerduck was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice and crossing established police lines.

Manning, 53, was jailed on $2,000 bail.

Authorities across the state of Virginia are urging drivers to stay alert and share the road with cyclists.

As the weather continues to be warm, there will be more and more cyclists and motorcyclists on the road, so drivers must continue to remain vigilant.
