1 dead in accident involving semi-trailer on I-77

COLUMBIA, SC — One person was killed in a car crash involving a semi-truck on I-77 in the early morning hours.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) is investigating the crash that occurred at approximately 2:38 a.m. on Thursday, June 6, near mile marker 12. The location is between the Forest Drive and Decker Boulevard exits.

According to SCHP, a 1997 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling north on I-77 when a 2002 Mazda traveling the wrong way, south in the northbound lanes, struck the tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured, and the driver of the Mazda succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene.
