Texans News: Houston OC likes flexibility of offense this season: ‘All limits off’

Every year in the NFL, there’s a team that comes out of nowhere to surprise the entire league. It’s almost like clockwork, and last season that team was the Houston Texans. Houston won the AFC South division, then won a playoff game against the Cleveland Browns in the wild-card round. It was a short year for Houston as they fell to the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round, but it was a major success nonetheless.

No one saw the Texans having this type of immediate success, but the play of second overall pick CJ Stroud allowed the team to come together. Stroud showed that he is not just an ordinary rookie, but that he could be one of the next star players in the NFL. Most teams would have been happy with their success, but Houston is fighting for more.

They went out and acquired star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to give Stroud another weapon and they traded for star running back Joe Mixon from the Cincinnati Bengals. The Texans offense is now loaded with talent, alongside Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Dalton Schultz, Dameon Pierce and John Metchie. They are not sitting idly by and are looking to establish themselves in the AFC.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik talked about the flexibility of the offense this season and how the team can do just about anything on the field.

“That’s really it, it takes away all the limitations of everything you have to do to win a game,” Slowik said Thursday, via the team’s official transcript. “If we feel like we have to throw the ball deep to win a game, we can do that. If we have to throw it short to win a game, we can do that. If we have to throw the ball 40 times to win a game , we feel like we can do it, it allows us and empowers us to do whatever is necessary in the given week to beat the opponent in front of us, and everyone in our offense, and really in our. team right now, is all participating in this and that’s what makes it really fun.”

Slowik decided to return to Houston for another season rather than pursue a head coaching position because he believes in this unit. With Stroud leading the way, Houston should be one of the best teams in the entire NFL. The Texans haven’t had this much hype around them in years, giving them the potential to be true Super Bowl contenders this season.
