SAPD: Driver dies after hitting metal sign

Witnesses told police that the driver of a 2008 Lexus was speeding when he crossed onto the right shoulder and the grassy median and crashed.

SAN ANTONIO – Police say a driver was killed when he drifted onto a grassy median south of downtown and struck a metal highway sign.

San Antonio Police responded to a crash report on U.S. Highway 90 West at I-37 South around 2 a.m.

Witnesses told police that the driver of a 2008 Lexus was speeding when he drifted onto the right shoulder and grassy median before crashing. Officers said the Lexus slid several feet and struck the base of a high-strength metal structure.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The driver has not yet been identified.

No further injuries were reported.
