Convicted rapist sentenced to 25 years in prison as part of a deal

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually abusing two teenagers on Thursday, May 31.

Layne Barras, 28, of Donaldsonville, Louisiana, was found guilty of two counts of third-degree rape. Barras received credit for time already served.

The sentence will be served without parole or suspension of sentence.

According to authorities, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s detectives received a tip in July 2021 that Barras had engaged in sexual acts with two minors. Detectives launched an investigation and received another report in October 2021 in which Barras admitted to sexually abusing two minor females, documents state.

Barras reportedly admitted to showing one of the teens child pornography before reenacting the scene.

After further investigation and confirmation of these confessions, Barras was arrested and taken to the Assumption Parish Detention Center.
