EMA confirms tornado touched down near Paulding

UPDATE: A large, dangerous tornado has been confirmed in Hillsdale County, Michigan. The tornado watch in Hillsdale County was canceled around 7:15 p.m. The EMA confirmed that a tornado touched down east of Paulding, near Melrose.

Tornado warnings were issued for portions of Putnam, Paulding, Henry and Defiance counties until 8:45 p.m

Additional severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for parts of the viewing area. A full list of warnings can be found here.

The National Weather Service has issued one Tornado watch for portions of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan. It is valid until Tuesday, 11 p.m. Check out the map below.

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A 13th Weather Alert has been declared for today, May 7, due to the threat of severe thunderstorms.

From the afternoon to the evening, showers and thunderstorms can be expected in two different rounds. The first showers are expected to occur between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. A second wave of thunderstorms could develop between 6:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., especially if the sun shines in the late afternoon. The overall severe weather threat is 3 on a scale of 5. Thunderstorms could produce damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes.

There is uncertainty about how much sunshine and subsequent instability will occur after the first round of rain. However, the atmosphere will contain high levels of wind shear, which can produce hurricanes or supercells. These storms can produce large hail and tornadoes, as well as damaging winds.
