Chicago Police Shooting: Officers shoot stabber and injure victim on West Side, CPD says

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police officers shot and killed a suspect with a knife and wounded a man he was attacking on the West Side on Monday night, police said.

At around 11:10 p.m., officers were patrolling the 300 block of South Cicero Avenue when police say they observed a man attempting to stab another man in the street.

Officers ordered the man to drop the knife and de-escalate the situation, but the man continued his attack, police said.

According to police, officers shot the suspect after he failed to comply with their orders, hitting both the man and the victim.

The suspect was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. Authorities have not released his identity.

The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said.

Two officers were also taken to hospital for observation, police said.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. The officers involved will be placed on administrative duty for at least 30 days.
