Man arrested for fighting outside Buffalo & Erie County Central Public Library

The fight began when the suspect allegedly confronted a person and searched him, taking money from his pockets.

BUFFALO, NY — The Erie County Sheriff’s Office announced in a press release Saturday the arrest of a 38-year-old man after a fight that occurred outside the Buffalo and Erie County Public Library on Friday the 24th. may.

Officers were dispatched to a fight in progress around 3:15 p.m., where suspect Jacob Schneider of Buffalo was yelling and causing a scene. Officers had asked Schneider to stop, which led to a foot chase down Washington Street and north to Main Street.

Schneider was apprehended and brought back to the library for further investigation. The victim involved in the altercation was bleeding from the head and was treated by security on scene and then transported to Buffalo General for further treatment.

Following an investigation, it was revealed that Schneider allegedly confronted the victim and searched him, taking money from his pocket. He then allegedly hit the victim several times without her responding. Security was able to break up the fight at that point, but that’s when police chased Schneider on foot.

Schneider has since been charged with 3rd Degree Robbery, 3rd Degree Assault and Resisting Arrest. He is being held at the Erie County Detention Center awaiting arraignment.

The victim was also arrested on a warrant issued by the State of Pennsylvania.
