Three young children died in a landslide in Hanoi, state media and a local resident said on Monday, after soil and stones fell from a hill onto a play center following heavy rain.

The Vietnamese capital experienced heavy rain, lightning and thunder for more than an hour on Sunday evening, flooding streets and snarling traffic.

The rain caused the sudden landslide in Bai Trai township in a suburb of Hanoi.

“The children were playing there when the accident happened,” a resident told AFP.

“The earth from the hill collapsed the wall of the building and buried the children,” who were between three and five years old, the woman said, declining to give her name.
