Man accused of causing fatal crash near DAY arrested in New Jersey

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A man wanted in New Jersey has been arrested in connection with an April car crash that left four people dead and a fifth with life-threatening injuries.


Clayton Daniel Hughes, 26, of Blacklick was taken into custody without incident on Monday, July 29. He was found in a residence in Warren, New Jersey.

Hughes is currently in custody at the Somerset County Jail in New Jersey awaiting extradition to Ohio.

The Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted Hughes on the following charges:

  • Eight cases of serious negligent homicide
  • A case of serious bodily harm with a vehicle
  • A case of assault with a vehicle
  • A case of failure to stop after an accident
  • One count of OVI

Hughes was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and driving at dangerous speeds of over 90 miles per hour. He reportedly collided with two vehicles, causing multiple accidents.
