Dana Air faces backlash over delayed refunds after lockdown

Since Dana Air ceased operations, passengers have expressed increasing frustration over the airline’s delay in ticket refunds.

The suspension, which came after a runway override incident, resulted in Dana Air grounding flights and leaving many customers stranded.

The PUNCH recalls that on April 25, following the runway violation by Dana Air, they announced that they would process refunds for flights affected by the suspension of operations.

In a statement, airline management asked customers to be patient and asked them to provide their booking details and bank account numbers to enable refunds.

However, several customers have taken to social media to express their dismay at the slow pace of refunds and lack of communication from the airline.

Speaking to our correspondent, a customer who bought a ticket two days before the suspension, Israel Adebode, explained: “My flight was supposed to be on Monday last week. Even after the ban, the website continued to function until three days later; It stopped working and I need to get my money back.”

Others have reported being blocked by the airline on social media for requesting a refund. A tweet with the username @Ajewole Theophilus, who claimed to be an affected passenger, tweeted: “Surprisingly, @danaairline has blocked me and other users on Twitter for requesting a refund of our money. “So we can no longer reach them .”

The alleged airline’s behavior on social media has drawn criticism. Several customers pointed out that Dana Air deactivated their account on X (formerly Twitter) after numerous refund requests.

A user with the username @Papi_Xchulo wrote: “Are you aware that Dana Air has deactivated her @DanaAir account on But they quickly deactivated her account. How are we supposed to get our refund?”

Another Twitter user who spoke to the PUNCH, George Aremu, shared a similar experience that happened to his wife.

“This is what happened to my wife and her colleagues. They booked a flight with Dana from Lagos to Abuja and back to Lagos. The exam was canceled. So they asked for a refund and Dana said they would only pay one.”

The delayed refunds have disrupted travel plans and caused significant inconvenience to customers. Another Twitter user who filed his complaint with the Twitter handle @SaibrousFarms, a company affected by the suspension, tweeted: “Due to the last suspension, we have not received our money back” from DanaAir, causing a setback to our logistics /Itinerary led.”

Speaking to our correspondent, he added: “I am interested in getting my hard-earned money back.”

An angry user with the X username @iam__leonpatriq also shared his frustration about Is this how our money flows?
