Hutchinson man arrested after police chase

HUTCHINSON, Kansas (KSNW) – A Hutchinson man was arrested Monday afternoon following a police chase.

According to Hutchinson police, agents with the Department of Corrections’ Enforcement, Apprehension and Investigation Task Force located a wanted person, a 36-year-old Hutchinson man, near North Severance Street and East 11th Avenue at 3:20 p.m.


Before they could reach the man, he fled from HPD officers in his vehicle. Since the man had previously fled from law enforcement, officers did not pursue him.

The man was later found on Milcon Street between West 11th Avenue and West 13th Avenue. He was armed with a handgun and fled from officers.

The KHP later found him again after he got into his vehicle and fled the area, resulting in another chase.

According to HPD, the man ran a stop sign at the corner of East 4th Avenue and North Maple Street at 3:48 p.m. and struck another car. He then ran off, firing one shot from his pistol. The HFD believes the shot was not fired at the officers pursuing him.

A short time later the man was arrested.

The driver of the vehicle hit by the man suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

The man was arrested on suspicion of fleeing and eluding, aggravated possession of a weapon, aggravated assault, hindering law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless driving, criminal discharge of a firearm and three felony warrants.

The KHP is leading the investigation into the accident. The HPD is leading the criminal investigation.
