Oman-based CEO accused of sexual harassment on flight

Dinesh Kumar Sarogi, the CEO of Oman-based Vulcan Green Steel, has been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after he was accused of sexual harassment against Ananya Chhaochharia. The incident reportedly took place on a flight from Kolkata to Abu Dhabi, India Today reported.

Ananya accused the 65-year-old CEO of showing her porn clips on his mobile phone. The conversation, which started as a casual chat about hobbies and families, escalated when Sarogi allegedly showed inappropriate content.

Etihad cabin crew responded promptly to the situation by escorting Ananya to her seat and offering her fruit. Despite this, Sarogi repeatedly asked the crew about Ananya’s whereabouts.

After reaching Kolkata, Ananya’s parents filed a complaint with the Bidhannagar city police and Sarogi was booked under sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force with intent to outrage modesty), 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (uttering words, making sounds or gestures or displaying objects which are offensive to the modesty of a woman and invade her privacy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Ananya also appealed to Naveen Jindal, MP and Chairman of Jindal Steel, to take necessary action against Sarogi. Responding to her appeal, Jindal thanked Ananya for her courage in speaking out and reiterated his company’s zero-tolerance policy towards such behaviour. He assured that a team has been appointed to investigate the matter and take strict action.
