Fort Worth police release video of police-involved chase and shooting on Tuesday – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Fort Worth police will hold a press conference at 4 p.m. to release video of last week’s officer-involved shooting. Live video of that press conference will appear in the player above.

Fort Worth police said last week that officers pursued the driver of a stolen vehicle Thursday night. He crashed into a police car in an attempt to elude officers and then drove erratically until police disabled the vehicle with spike barriers.

The pursuit ended near NW 28th Street and McKinley Avenue, where police say the driver exited the vehicle with a long gun and stole another vehicle.

The person was shot, police said.

According to police, the driver got out of the second vehicle and pointed the gun at a store. After officers fired more shots, the driver was hit and fell to the ground.

The driver was detained, transported for medical care and is in stable condition. The driver has not yet been identified and his current condition is unknown.

Fort Worth Police Chief Neil Noakes said Thursday it is important to keep innocent civilians in mind throughout this series of events.

“This is another example of how unpredictable and dangerous a police officer’s job can be. You never know when you’re going to come across somebody with a gun, you never know what somebody could do with that gun,” Nokes said. “…And when you’re in a place like this, where there are innocent civilians out and about and there could be anything in the background, when they’re shooting, they have to make sure they know what’s behind the threat they’re trying to stop,” he continued.”
