2024 MLB Draft | Atlanta Braves Select Cam Caminiti

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Atlanta Braves have selected a high school left-hander from Arizona in the first round of the 2024 major league draft.

The team selected LHP Cam Caminiti from Saguaro High School with the 24th overall pick. According to the Braves, the 17-year-old went 9-0 with a 0.93 ERA and 119 strikeouts in 52.2 innings during his senior season. His contributions helped his team win the Arizona 4A state championship.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound left-handed pitcher was named a first-team All-American by Baseball America and the American Baseball Coaches Association this year. The Scottsdale, Ariz., native also earned Gatorade Arizona Baseball Player of the Year honors for the 2023-24 campaign, according to a release.

The Braves have selected pitchers in the first round in each of the last five drafts. According to a release, the club selected left-handed pitcher Jared Shuster in 2022, right-handed pitcher Ryan Cusick in 2021 and right-handed pitcher Hurston Waldrep in 2023 — all college pitchers — while selecting prep right-handed pitcher Owen Murphy in 2022.

Welcome to Braves Nation, Cam!
